Primary Music

Our aim in Primary music is to develop and inspire a love and appreciation of music in all our learners.

Pupils from P1-7 receive dedicated whole class Music tuition every week. Pupils will develop skills in singing following Kodaly methodology, plus instrumental skills learning tuned percussion, ukulele, keyboard, drum kit and guitar. They will also learn about different styles of music during class projects and create their own music. All pupils have a variety of performing opportunities throughout the year.

In addition to weekly whole class Music, we are very lucky to have a team of Music Instructors who teach specific instruments weekly in our school, all free of charge through Perth and Kinross Instrumental Services. Pupils from P4 upwards can apply to have lessons in the below instruments when space is available:

Mr Bathgate - Percussion

Mr O’Hare – Piano

Mr Nicholson – Guitar

Mr Seith – Brass

Mr Steele – Woodwind

Miss Steele – Cello

Mr Whiteman – Violin and Viola

Pupils can also learn bagpipes, snare, tenor and bass drum with Pitlochry and Blair Atholl Pipe Band who practise in the school on Wednesday evenings. Those interested in lessons should contact the band directly.

Extra Curricular Music at Lunchtime

All pupils are encouraged to get involved in extra curricular Music at Pitlochry High School.

Those having instrument lessons in school are also encouraged to attend our authority wide Central Groups bands who rehearse in Perth once a week during the winter

months and perform at two concerts a year. Pitlochry pupils are eligible to for free transport to Central Groups.
